THE THIRD COMMANDMENT

Remember to keep the Sabbath holy or you shall not profane the Sabbath; it is holy to the Lord.

The Lord rested on the seventh day after having created the world and all it holds. Therefore, it becomes a day of rest. It is a day of memorial: a memory of Israel’s liberation from bondage in Egypt.

In the gospel, to the people who accused him of violating the sabbath, Jesus gives this law its authentic and authoritative interpretation: “The sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.”

With compassion, Christ declares the sabbath for doing good rather than harm, for saving life rather than killing.

The Sabbath is the day of the Lord of mercies and a day to honor God. The day of resurrection is the day of new creation. Sunday worship fulfills the moral command of the Old Covenant.

The Sunday celebration and Christ’s Eucharist is at the heart of the Church’s life. The church teaches that the sabbath is a day of protest against the servitude of work and worship of money.

In summary, it is the day of grace and rest from work. It is the day to acknowledge the work of God and see Him in the persons in need who need a sort of revivalism, and renewal, that all might move as one human family.

Do I respect the day of rest faithfully and offer it to God?
